Conduct Policy 4.06 Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco and Illegal Activity
BC HOCKEY BULLETIN
ISSUE #: 2018-043
October 25, 2018
TO: BC Hockey Membership
FROM: Barry Petrachenko Chief Executive Officer
SUBJECT: Conduct Policy 4.06 Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco and Illegal Activity
With the legalization of cannabis in Canada, it is important for BC Hockey members to note that this new legislation has no effect on the current BC Hockey Policy.
Competitions within Hockey Canada continue to comply with the guidelines of the Canadian AntiDoping Program (CADP) implemented by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. Currently, the CADP lists cannabis as a banned substance.
Below is the BC Hockey Conduct Policy 4.06 which addresses this matter:
4.06 ALCOHOL, DRUGS, TOBACCO AND ILLEGAL ACTIVITY Hockey is a healthy sport where we have a responsibility to the players, participants and the community to demonstrate and encourage healthy choices.
BC Hockey prohibits the use of tobacco, cannabis, alcohol, drugs and banned / restricted substances during BC Hockey sanctioned events as outlined in this policy. BC Hockey is sincere in their duty to uphold the societal law in which members operate regarding illegal activities. For policy regarding performance enhancing products please see section 4.06.06.
Incidents are to be dealt with on an individual basis. Member associations, leagues and teams are required to establish policies and procedures to deal with the consequences of non-compliance by their members.
