ANOTHER INCIDENT AT OCEANSIDE PLACE

Posted by Oceanside MHA at Oct 28, 2022 5:30PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello again,
Sadly I am writing again to let everyone know we have received another incident fine from the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Oceanside Place. This time the incident was spitting in the dressing room.

As you are all aware from my last letter, the RDN has issued incident fines and threatened ice suspensions. The team that is being fined for this past incident will be suspended from their practice slots for the next two weeks (Weeks 10 and 11).

The RDN is in the process of seriously considering the suspension of facility privileges as the next step. This would affect every team and every player in Oceanside Minor Hockey and may include the suspensions of our tournaments/jamborees. I’d like to think we have learned our lessons from the previous incidents, but for whatever reason – we have not. It is the policy of Oceanside Minor Hockey that “players should be supervised at all times while they are in the dressing rooms. The player supervision should be done by two adults together, never by a lone personnel member…” This policy is expanding on BC Hockey policy 5.10. This is called the TWO DEEP METHOD and is explained in Section 17 of the Oceanside Minor Hockey Association Policy and Procedures Manual. It is about time that we start policing ourselves better or we all will suffer from the actions of others.

Unfortunately, my next letter to you as parents of OMHA players may include news of the suspension of ice privileges. I sincerely hope I do not have to write that letter.

Posted by Oceanside MHA at Oct 20, 2022 1:15PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

ATTENTION ALL OFFICIALS REGISTERING AS NEW, THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER REFEREED BEFORE OR THOSE WHO ARE RETURNING AFTER A LONG ABSENCE.

Oceanside Minor Hockey Association will be hosting an in-person clinic for NEW officials on Tuesday, October 25 at Oceanside Place in the multi-purpose room. The clinic will open at 5:00pm and run until 9:00 or 10:00pm. YOU HAVE TO REGISTER FOR THIS CLINIC via the BC Hockey website. To access the clinic registration – in your search engine type in BC Hockey Officiating Clinics. Select Getting Started|BC Hockey.

Step 1 – you must complete the Hockey University modules.
Step 2 – if you will be 18+ years as of December 31, 2022, you will require a Criminal Record Check. This Criminal Record Check can only be done through BC Hockey. If you have applied for your CRC, you will receive a session number. Keep this number so that you may be allowed to attend the in-person clinic even if BC Hockey had not yet received your CRC.
Step 3 – if you are a brand new official aged between 11 and 15 years, you will select Reference Number 2022003508 (New L1 Oceanside MHA). New L2 officials (ages 16-17), select Reference Number 2022003509 (New L2 Oceanside Minor Hockey), and new officials 18+ years as of December 31, 2022 will select Reference Number 2022003510 (New L2 (CRC) Oceanside MHA).

If you have any further problems registering, you can contact BC Hockey at clinics@bchockey.net, or contact myself and I will see what assistance I can give. The new system can be challenging, many registrants have had difficulties, so please remain calm.

Any further questions or concerns, please contact me at johnasloan@shaw.ca. Thank you.

OCEANSIDE PICTURE NIGHT

Posted by Oceanside MHA at Oct 11, 2022 12:12PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Photo night is TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2022. Photos will be taken in the main lobby this year and includes a group shot (pre-Covid era style). Please be prepared to line up in the lobby 5 minute before your allotted time. Teams only have 12 minutes each so unfortunately we are not able to wait for late players. If you arrive earlier than 5 minutes, please wait to enter the lobby as there are many kids and it can become quite chaotic. Your manager will be in touch to confirm your team photo time. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR MANAGER FIRST, OR joeymacey@gmail.com WITH QUESTIONS.

There will be NO dressing areas so players must arrive in full gear. NO SKATES, HELMETS OR NECK PROTECTORS ARE REQUIRED (neck protectors attached to base layers can be tucked under. Green tape on sticks is also discouraged as the photographer uses a green screen for the background.

Each player will get an envelope order form from their team manager. All players receive a team photo which is included in the cost of registration. BEFORE YOU ARRIVE FOR PHOTO NIGHT, please fill out the top portion of your envelope regardless of whether you are ordering additional photos or not as the photographer uses this to keep organized.
