Oceanside Place Alarms

Posted by Oceanside MHA at Oct 7, 2016 12:37PM PDT

Over the last couple of weeks there have been a number of occasions where the AED and fire alarms have been activated at Oceanside Place. These actions are very concerning as the alarms are in place for emergency situations. What is even more concerning is that upon review of the arena’s security camera, we have been told that some of the alarms were deliberately set off by a few of our players who took it upon themselves to tamper with the AED cabinet in the Meeker corridor as well as pull the fire alarm at the pull station in the lobby.

The arena staff are trained to respond to these alarms as quickly as possibly as they have already had (5) medical emergencies to attend to since the AEDs have been installed. As a result, the arena staff have to take each alarm very seriously and false alarms are extremely detrimental to those involved in the emergency procedures.

The Regional District of Nanaimo – Arena Services has reached out to OMHA for our support in helping to diminish any false alarms. Moving forward, OMHA wants to clearly state that should any of our players and/or members be found to have deliberately activated an alarm they will be subject to OMHA’s disciplinary policies and procedures.

It is also our hope that every one of our members help to eliminate situations like these by stepping in to discourage this type of behavior and/or by reporting those involved to arena staff.

This is just a reminder that all volunteers must have their Criminal Record Checks in by Oct 15th.
Please ensure you get yours to the risk coordinator if you have not already done so.
