ANOTHER INCIDENT AT OCEANSIDE PLACE

Posted by Oceanside MHA at Oct 28, 2022 5:30PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello again,
Sadly I am writing again to let everyone know we have received another incident fine from the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Oceanside Place. This time the incident was spitting in the dressing room.

As you are all aware from my last letter, the RDN has issued incident fines and threatened ice suspensions. The team that is being fined for this past incident will be suspended from their practice slots for the next two weeks (Weeks 10 and 11).

The RDN is in the process of seriously considering the suspension of facility privileges as the next step. This would affect every team and every player in Oceanside Minor Hockey and may include the suspensions of our tournaments/jamborees. I’d like to think we have learned our lessons from the previous incidents, but for whatever reason – we have not. It is the policy of Oceanside Minor Hockey that “players should be supervised at all times while they are in the dressing rooms. The player supervision should be done by two adults together, never by a lone personnel member…” This policy is expanding on BC Hockey policy 5.10. This is called the TWO DEEP METHOD and is explained in Section 17 of the Oceanside Minor Hockey Association Policy and Procedures Manual. It is about time that we start policing ourselves better or we all will suffer from the actions of others.

Unfortunately, my next letter to you as parents of OMHA players may include news of the suspension of ice privileges. I sincerely hope I do not have to write that letter.
